OverviewOne of the big drawback to Morse Code is the need to have a Morse Code Key. Even the least expensive ones are $10 plus shipping and the nice ones, Wow. I have two, one from eBay which is ex-Cold-War Russian and one from a HamFest that I bought in the "bone yard".
But, for that occasional play, you can make your own hand-held Morse key from two Popsicle sticks! It's a great hack and so I thought it belonged on hackster.io !!!
There are no instructions, just pictures. I used the adhesive copper tape used in arts & crafts, a standard desk stapler, twisted hook-up wire, some Kaptan mylar tape (Scotch should work), and a small piece of heat-shrink to cover the staples so I do not have to take a booster for my tetanus shot. The magnets are two of the fancy NEODYMIUM magnets from online of from a place like Hobby Lobby.
I find the Code Sticks fit nicely in my palm and I can use my thumb to hold one side in place and the proximal phalanx of my index finger to squeeze the sticks together. (I did not know the term either before I started writing this!)
Even if you do not learn Morse Code, this will be a conversation piece!
