Project Summary:
The Dérive app provides a novel solution to meeting up with friends in an exciting and fun way. It uses the powerful dynamic between a SmartWatch and SmartPhone to bring friends together, but they go through an adventure in the process. In my implementation (Project Variation 2), the main user, or the SmartPhone user, chooses a precise place to meet based on his interests, and once he has chosen a place to meet, he can invite his "curious" friends to meet him there. These invited users can then choose to join him or not. Additionally, the main user selects a desired arrival time, and based on the inputs of the other users joining, the meeting time is pushed back to accommodate everyone. Other features like the type of meeting (celebration/party/etc.) and the theme of the meeting (funny/scary/etc.) are also chosen by the main user, but the invited users don't know these features, so in their adventure they get slight hints into these features through the places the app tells them to go to before the final destination.
From the invited user's perspective, he only uses his SmartWatch the whole time, and to participate in an adventure he has to say he's "curious". From there, the app is fairly dormant until an invitation comes in, and then if he accepts the invitation he has to follow the directions provided by the app until the final destination is ultimately reached. The app seeks to provide an exciting experience, so it will almost never take him directly to the final place, but it will lead him to many areas based on local attractions and the features that the main user input. The invited user can push back the arrival time at any point to check out a local attraction, and the app will continue giving directions when he allows it to. Ultimately, the invited user will reach the final destination at a time where everyone else will be there as well.
